This policy discloses the information management practices of Flight Insight Inc. (“Flight Insight,” “we,” “us”) as they relate to users of the Flight Insight Portal (the “Portal”) and our mobile applications, including FI Preflight, or Flight Deck (the “App”). Portal and App are collectively referred to as the “Platform.”
Our public website at www.flightinsight.io is governed by a separate privacy policy.
Most Platform accounts are provisioned by an organization — an employer, operator, or client — that has contracted with Flight Insight. Where that is the case, your organization determines what information is collected about you, who within the organization may view it, and how long it is retained. Flight Insight processes that information on their behalf and in accordance with our agreement with them. Questions about your organization’s use of your data should be directed to your administrator.
We record your IP address to diagnose server problems, administer the Platform, and help verify your identity. We also log authentication events, device and browser type, application version, and timestamps of Platform activity for security and audit purposes.
The Portal uses long-term and short-term cookies. Long-term cookies store user preferences, such as how data is displayed. Short-term session cookies contain more information and are deleted when you log off. Sensitive information is stored long-term only on Flight Insight’s secure servers.
The Platform gives users the ability to provide information, or have information provided on their behalf, including personal or confidential information about the user, its employees and contractors (“User Information”). Examples include contact information (such as name, and email), unique identifiers (such as username, password, or identification number), compliance information (such as certificates, registrations, safety manuals, or accident reports), and other personal or confidential information.
User Information is collected within the Platform to verify the user’s identity, allow for database linkage, provide reporting capability (including aggregated data or benchmarking reports that do not identify the User Information provided by or on behalf of a particular user), provide reporting capability to mutual Clients, allow for record keeping and tracking of data (such as payments, internal training, and flight records) for use as account information in our system or as confirmation to Clients, and for other similar purposes appropriate to the operation of the Platform, including its review and verification services.
The App is available for iOS and Android and supports flight planning, situational awareness, and operational record keeping. In addition to the User Information described above, the App collects the following.
The App requests access to your device’s location to provide core functionality:
Weather and environmental data. Your location is used to retrieve local weather conditions, forecasts, and related environmental data relevant to flight planning at or near your position.
Map display. Your location is used to display your current position on maps within the App, so you can orient yourself relative to airspace, operational boundaries, and other mapped features.
Location used for these purposes serves your immediate request within the App. We do not use location to build advertising or marketing profiles, and we do not sell location data.
The App includes an optional feature called Flight Mode. When Flight Mode is active and a flight is started, the App transmits your device’s live location to Flight Insight’s servers, where it may be viewed by authorized users within your organization for operational awareness, coordination, and safety purposes.
The following applies to Flight Mode:
Location data transmitted during Flight Mode is associated with your user account and may be retained as part of your organization’s operational records. Retention and internal access are governed by our agreement with the organization that provides your account.
Where Flight Mode is enabled and permitted by your device settings, the App may access location while the App is in the background or the device is locked, so that live location transmission is not interrupted during operations. Background location access occurs only while Flight Mode is active.
Location access is controlled through your device’s operating system settings. You may grant, restrict, or revoke location permissions for the App at any time through iOS or Android settings. Denying or revoking location access will disable features that depend on it, including local weather retrieval, map positioning, and Flight Mode.
The App may also request access to camera, photos, storage, or notifications where you use features that require them. Each permission is requested at the point of use and may be declined or revoked, with corresponding loss of that functionality.
The Platform has security measures in place to protect against the loss, misuse, and alteration of User Information under our control. Access is password protected, allowing only users authorized by Flight Insight or by previously authorized users. Unless specified by the user otherwise, Client User Information is isolated from other Owner Clients, and Contractor User Information is isolated from other Contractors. Data is encrypted in transit. While no system can guarantee complete security, the Platform uses industry standard or better measures to protect against unintended disclosure or use of User Information.
Flight Insight is based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. User Information may be stored or processed in Canada and in other countries where our service providers operate, including the United States. Information stored outside Canada may be subject to lawful access by foreign courts, law enforcement, or national security authorities.
We use third-party providers for hosting, weather and aeronautical data, mapping, error monitoring, and communications. These providers process data on our behalf and are contractually restricted to that purpose.
We retain User Information for as long as your account is active and for the period required by our agreement with your organization or by applicable law. Flight logs, location records, and compliance documentation may be retained as operational or regulatory records. Server and authentication logs are retained for 6 months. On termination, data is deleted in accordance with the applicable customer agreement.
You may change and modify User Information you previously provided by logging into the Platform and editing it directly. Where information cannot be edited in the Platform, contact us or your organization’s administrator.
Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA) and comparable legislation, you may request access to the personal information we hold about you, request correction of inaccurate information, withdraw consent subject to legal and contractual restrictions, and request deletion of information we no longer require. We will respond within 30 days. Where your account is provisioned by an organization, we may refer your request to that organization or fulfill it in coordination with them.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at www.priv.gc.ca.
If we become aware of a breach of security safeguards involving User Information that creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as required by law, and will notify the affected organization without undue delay.
The Platform contains links to other sites. Flight Insight is not responsible for the privacy practices or content of websites not created and maintained by Flight Insight.
The Platform is intended for professional and commercial use and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Mr. Gunnewiek currently holds the position of Chief Executive Officer at Solex Thermal Science an international leader in the heating, cooling and drying of bulk solids.
Lowy spent a good portion of his 35 year engineering career at Hatch, a Global EPCM practice with over 20,000 staff where he managed the 400 million dollar oil and gas division.
Lowy has a long track record of running companies using his global experience, attention to detail and leadership qualities to help guide and grow their respective businesses.
Mark is a proven business leader with global experience in multiple industries. Prior to starting EdgeMark, he served as the President, Chief Operating Officer and Director of Environmental Refuelling Systems Inc., a privately-held fuel logistics and distribution company headquartered in Calgary, Canada.
From 2011 through August 2016, he was the Director of Business Development for PricewaterhouseCoopers, leading the sales of professional services to companies in the oil and gas industry across the globe.
From 2000 to 2010, he served as the Founder and President of the Cielo group of companies, a regional provider of home and office design and construction services in Arizona.
Mark has an intensive interest in emerging technologies, having spent 15 years with Nortel, Bay Networks, DEC and Honeywell in progressive sales, management and executive roles throughout the Americas and Asia Pacific.
Greg is the principal of a security risk management practice with a focus on new markets, energy and cyber spaces. He is based in Calgary, Alberta.
He was most recently the Head of Security- North America for Statoil / Equinor ASA. He was responsible for the security management program including awareness, threat assessment, information protection, and advice on physical security safeguards. He contributed greatly to the reorganization of the security practice in the company following a terrorist attack on its facilities in 2013.
Greg has considerable experience in corporate security, working primarily in the energy sector for over 25 years. He has held senior roles with major international corporations. He has extensive law enforcement experience, including over 14 years with the Prince Albert Police Force as a senior non-commissioned officer, where he served in the Patrol Operations, Criminal Investigation (Youth) and Community Policing sections.
Committed to lifelong learning, he has been a guest lecturer at post-secondary institutions in security management and policing studies.
Greg holds the Certified Protection Professional (CPP) designation conferred by ASIS International. He is active with ASIS having served as an officer at the Chapter and Regional level and has contributed to the managing Board on issues of International membership.
He also has served with the Professional Certification Board (PCB, the governing body which confers the Certified Protection Professional designation as well as 3 others) in the development of board certification for security professionals. He is a past President of the PCB.
Greg has also served on the President’s Commission on Governance to create and introduce a new governance model for ASIS International.
Committed to his industry Greg has served as a past chairman of the National Energy Security Professionals (NESP) network. Greg is a two-time recipient of a volunteer recognition award from the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers for his contributions to the ongoing effort around energy infrastructure security. He volunteers with the Calgary Stampede and has been a candidate for the Board of Directors of the Stampede.
Greg holds a Master of Science degree in the study of Security and Risk Management from the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom, a Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety from the University of Alberta and is a Fellow of the Security Institute (UK).
As a litigator, Erika brings over 12 years of experience providing advice and representation to businesses in the insurance, construction, energy and technology sectors. Erika has achieved success for her clients at all levels of Court in Alberta.
More recently, she has focused a significant part of her practice on helping clients navigate the dynamic legal, business and insurance landscape of emerging technologies and risks, including drones, cyber security, autonomous vehicles, blockchain, and AI.
Erika is one of few lawyers in Canada with a focus and experience in emerging technology – as one example – she successfully argued the first appeal of a charge against a drone operator in Canada under the Canadian Aviation Regulations.
Erika received her Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University in 2001 and her Bachelor of Laws from the University of Calgary in 2006.
